MBTA rehabs one or two commuter train cars

MBTAlogo.jpgThe Globe reports that the MBTA has modified one commuter rail train car to be more bike friendly. They removed the seats from one side of the car and replaced them with bike racks. The car will run on the Fitchburg line from Boston to Rockport, and its inaugural trip coincides with the Fitchburg Longsjo Classic cycling race. The T has no plans to make similar modifications in other cars. So, that's not particularly helpful to bike riders on all the other cars in the system. If the T wanted to make a truly bike friendly statement, they should have put one of these bike mounts in every other car, or something like that. I guess this was easier.

Also, the Globe notes that the labor contracts for transit workerss will expire tomorrow. The T is not anticipating any work stoppage. Apparently this happens regularly.
