Some local groups in New Orleans and Baton Rouge are working with FEMA to try and set up rail service between the two cities for commuting workers. Sounds like a good idea.

Indeed it does sound like a good idea. Might even be helpful if another evacuation is necessary (assuming they have suffecient rolling stock and I guess, double trackage so trains can get back and forth more effeciently). Teamed up with buses for those without transportation to the station, of course.
And just noting another New Orleans transit story, RTA buses and operators from N.O. are being sent to help out with the public transport crunch in Baton Rouge -- http://www.nola.com/newslogs/breakingtp/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_Times-Picayune/archives/2005_10_19.html#088345
