Smart cards deter auto theft

WMATA says auto theft is down 40 percent at its parking lots. One purported reason: the SmarTrip card now required for parking fee payment is too much of a hassle for thieves.

Tube: the Police have now handed over Aldgate station to the Underground engineering department. They expect to reopen by next Monday. From then on, full Metropolitan line service will be restored. The H&C line will also start running between Barking and Baker Street.

The King's Cross Tube station has been handed back, trains on the Northern and Victoria lines and the limited Metropolitan line service are now stopping there again.

The bombed carriage has been removed from Edgware Road last night, but the cops are still in possession. Hence the H&C can't go further west than Baker St, the Circle line is still disrupted and the Edgware Road branch of the District is out. It's expected to take two weeks (2nd August).

The Russell Square/KX bombsite, though, is still being searched for both bodies and clues...
