A Little Light Reading
Over a year ago, Beyond Brilliance/Beyond Stupidity had a posting on free books in the Reykjavik subway, encouring people to read as they travel. Barcelona, Spain has an interesting twist on the books-for-transit idea. Inside the TMB Metro station at Catalunya, one of the major hubs for the city, there is a book vending machine, identical to the vending machines selling candies and snacks but selling popular novels.
Apologies on the poor picture quality.

That's excellent. There are times I'd actually use that, provided that the popular fiction is palatable.
Except it takes the good bit out of book buying - the browsing. OK if it's pap where you can guess what the back says, or if you are actively looking for a title. Great if it extends the hours you can buy books in at stations, but I'd soonr browse Amazon than these things.
Well, they do sell hot dogs out of vending machines in Spain... or, well, almost anything that the Japanese sell out of vending machines. This seems like a rather logical extension of that.
Hi, I would love to know more about the book vending machine in question, any idea what the name of the company that operates it is ?
cheers,
Paul
