Camera shy
I don't know why transit agencies are so afraid of having their stations and trains photographed. First it was New York, now New Jersey, always overestimating its importance in the world, is afraid those pale dorks with fanny packs and binoculars photographing their locomotives are terrorists, not railfans.
Seriously, does anyone think harassing harmless nerds will make the system more safe, especially with camera phones?

TrackBacks
Considering the railfan I knew back in HS, who was absolutely the epitome of dork, railfans probably increase the safety of the system.
This guy knew when trains were coming, what they were supposed to be carrying, and what all the signage meant. He joked about holding up a "W" sign by the nearby track during a marching band contest when the other schools were on the field, as that would tell the conductor to blow the extremely loud whistle.
He would certainly notice if someone unusual were hanging around the tracks, the track was tampered with or something else wasn't right.
They should be deputizing these people whose idea of fun is to memorize train schedules and monitor freight trains for slight variations.
