How many metros have you been on?

Got at b3co.com!

Here's a fun, little diversion: Map your progress around the world by counting metro systems that you have riden on. The collection above is my personal talley. Click on the link to make your own. (via Urban Planning Blog)

Bah! Most of the metros I've been on aren't even on the list. No Manchester Metrolink. No Lausanne Metro (was that the world's only cogwheel metro?), no Blackpool Trams, no Sheffield Supertram.

Fun.

But yeah, there are a lot missing. Doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to what's there. Saint Louis and SF Muni but not other light rail agencies? PATH but not PATCO?

Cool, but definitely missing a lot.

In addition to DC - New York, Montreal, Boston, London, Chicago, Paris, Baltimore, Cleveland, Hong Kong, Singapore... and in just a few more weeks, Rome, Athens, Madrid and maybe Barcelona.

Tim, would the Budapest cog line not count as a "cogwheel metro"? Maybe it is not "metro" enough, and I never saw the one in Lausanne, but photos of the type of area it served look similar to the Budapest service, i.e. on the fringes of the metropolitan area.

I've used 55 myself. I realised how many cities I went to but didn't get on the metro (oh, the shame).

For those who care. Out of those 55, My favourite was the Green Line in Boston. 90 degree turns? No problem.

The one in Glasgow was the weirdest. You go in a one way oval.

The most efficient (compared to non-rail alternatives) was probably Caracass, Venuzuella. The metro is the cleanest place in the city.

The most spectacular views was from the people mover in Miami. Although on a sunny day, Vancouver's Sky Train can compete. Sitting in the "driver's seat", London's Dockland rail sytem is OK to.

The most roller coaster one was in Dallas. But Lisbon (or was it Porto?) above ground is a good competitor.

Befor you book a metro tour, just keep in mind that they get boring after a while. And I was a HUGE enthousiast.
