The page gives no indication as to where it was; looks like somewhere in Scotland.

The same thing's happened with railway breakdown cranes once or twice, as illustrated in the book trains in trouble.

I posted the link on my own weblog, and a commenter suggested that the location is somewhere in Galway Bay, Ireland. Another person has remarked that the first crane operator didn't allow for the fact that the car was full of water.
