Greetings from the Virgin Atlantic first class lounge!
Don't let me give you the wrong impression -- I'm both cheap and generally poor -- but a string of good luck got me upgraded. I have to say that this place is absolutely awesome. The chairs are soft, the internet is high-speed, the nuts are mixed and I'm told there's a PlayStation somewhere around here. Compared to the indignity of surrendering your belt and shoes to a security guard in the middle of a crowded room (would you do that just to ride a bus?) this is about as civilized as it gets. Since the days of showing up for your flight right before arrival are over, I'd imagine that if the major airlines want to win customers back from the discounters, they will have more facilities like this, even for the plebes in coach. While this lounge is oriented toward business travellers, there may soon be similar facilities for families and leisure travellers as well.
Now, I must go, as drinks await!

I am very, very curious to hear your reflections on the re-design of Trafalgar Square and of course the congestion charging in London's CBD.
Can i ask how you got upgraded on the Virgin Train as on 22 Feb 04 I finally took - in exhaustion and semi-despair - the last seat in Club Class on a Darlington to Birmingham Virgin Voyager that was so packed with people I suspect it would have failed EU tranport of livestock laws. I had reserved a standard class seat a week before but not only was this taken the train manager said reservations were cancelled and he would not try to find me a seat. indeed so packed were the corridor spaces he couldn't have got out of Club Class. All others paid the supplement. i refused and persist in this. Have I any case? I am seeking help with appealing against the Revenue Protection Service who insist I pay. I an pay £15 but do not on principle feel i should.
I was on Virgin Air, not Virgin Trains.
